When the 53rd Intercollegiate Championships gets underway from April 4 – 5, organizers are promising that both patrons and participants alike will benefit from an extraordinary experience rooted in the fusion of sport and entertainment.
On the track and in the field the action will feature competition among the top performing Inter-collegiate institutions such as UWI, UTECH, MICO, PCC and defending male champions G.C. Foster College. These institutions possess some of the island’s premier track and field prospects and can be used as a symbol to indicate a bright future of continued dominance in Jamaican Track and Field exploits.
With top performances expected from top athletes such as Rusheen McDonald, Stephanie Mcpherson, Anastasia Leroy, and Great Britain’s Delano Williams. Olympian Hansle Parchment and former World Junior and World Youth Champion thrower Fredrick Dacres will also add immense quality to an already special list of names set to compete. In addition, as part of the many exciting prizes which athletes will have the opportunity of winning, two airline tickets will be given to the winning institution for the Men’s 4*100m relay, towards their journey to the Penn Relays curtsey of Fly Jamaica Airways.
If the on track activities are not enough patrons are urged to visit what the organizers have dubbed, ‘The Experience Zone’. In this zone patrons will be treated to a wonderful area specifically designed for interaction through sponsor activities and displays with giveaways and games all coordinated by a designated special surprise host.
With the merger of the Cheerleading Championships, the festivities will take on a new look on day two as the Intercollegiate cheer competition will take up as much attention as the major on track events.
The fun will be further intensified as the Championships will be set to give patrons valued entertainment in the form of a mini concert, also set for day two, April 5. Within the collegiate institutions, there exists an immense talent pool on which the organizers could call and they have this year chosen to include the D Burnz and the Flash Mob band from UWI along with the Phuzion Band, an exciting group out of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. At the close of the day, patrons and participants will be persuaded into staying back for the Integration after party.
The 2014 Intercollegiate Track & Field and Cheer Leading Championships is all set to deliver an enticing event of quality sporting performances coupled with an entertainment package, and should be a great fusion of experiences to satify all our social needs. This year’s championships will get run from April 4 – 5. The sponsors include, Empire Supermarkets, Lucozade, Ensure, Jamaica Producers, Axe, Degree, Kia Motors, Palace Amusement, Eon, Robbie Spray Painters and Reggae Jammin.
