Kingston, Jamaica: – Artiste and Producer 77-Klash (pronounced two-seven-clash) can credit his present flavour with the wide range of influences that he has been exposed to through family, friends, art and music that has played a significant part of his life.
77-Klash is credited with the ‘Scallawah Riddim’ (Turbulence – Notorious) and the smash underground hit Brooklyn Anthem , featuring artiste Jahdan. This unique blend of dancehall and grime enabled 77-Klash to be the only Jamaican artist featured on Madden 08, the biggest selling video game in the world.
In 2007, Klash was at it again with the overpowering ‘Swarm Riddim’, influenced by electro-rock and old school Dancehall. ‘Swarm Riddim’ features several notable artists including Lutan Fyah, Idonia, and the international dancehall artiste Vybez Cartel.
77-Klash has been a student of reggae, dancehall and international music for as long as he can remember, claiming influences such as Yellow Man, Super Cat, Bob Marley, The Clash, Diplo, Deep Purple, Sean Reverand, Pink Floyd, Junior Reid, Iggy Pop, Ol Dirty Bastard, Sizzla, Buju Banton, Onyx, Lil John, TV On The Radio, Bunny Wailer, KRS-1, Tupac, Justice, Notorious BIG, Poor Righteous Teachers, Wu-Tang and Count Ozzy. With such a wide range of influences it’s not strange that the music he makes is eclectic in nature. According to 77-Klash “My style of music is an amalgamation of sounds mixed up, passa passa, upfull and uplifting.”
Despite his success over the years, working with Rza, Dready Couger, Afu Ra, M1 (Dead Presidents), Matt Shadetek, Jahdan, Aidonia, Vybez Kartel, Turbulence, Jah Mason, Lutan Fyah, Norris Man and Kid Kurup to name a few, Klash would like to work with more of Jamaican artistes both known and unknown.
77-Klash has done a lot for the resonance of the music and is positive when he looks at the future. “I see my music opening up a lot of doors that have been held shut for a while now, I see my music providing a missing link in Jamaican music and pushing our music and culture forward. Travelling all over the world has enhanced my perspective on life and the space in which I exist.”
77-Klash plans for his next project to be a compilation album with all his original productions with artist from yard and abroad.
