The American Friends of Jamaica will host its 3rd Annual South Florida Gala, named the Peacock Ball, on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the Ritz-Carlton, Coconut Grove, Miami. Known for their elegance as well as their good purpose, AFJ benefits are attended byJamaican and American businesspersons, social sector leaders, political figures, and members of the diplomatic corps. The event raises funds for Jamaican non-profits in the areas of education, health, and human and economic development.
This signature event also honors individuals and companies that have distinguished themselves in contributing to Jamaica with the AFJ International Humanitarian Award. This year the AFJ honors Tony Hart , Chairman, Hart Investments and Food for the Poor , a leading international relief organization for their many contributions to Jamaica. Past honorees have included Chris Blackwell, American fashion icon Ralph Lauren and his wife, Ricky, Rep. Charles Rangel of New York, Sandals’ founder Gordon “Butch” Stewart, Canada’s Michael Lee-Chin, the Jamaican-born billionaire, philanthropist, and high-profile investor, GraceKennedy and Diageo, to name a few.
