The 3rd Annual Afro-Carib Festival took place on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at the Miramar Regional Park Amphitheater, hosting over 5,000 attendees eager to celebrate Black History Month and Reggae Month with the City of Miramar Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis, the driving force behind the growing annual event celebrating the common bonds of the African and Caribbean Diaspora.
The festival’s much-anticipated headliner, Jamaican reggae Grammy winner and phenom Koffee, had thousands on their feet, dancing and singing along to her popular hits including “Toast” and “Pull Up”. Tekno brought Nigeria to the stage with his electric afro-pop performance, reggaeton master Jacob Forever kept the beat going with his fun, high-energy performance, J. Perry represented his Haitian heritage with his unique style and tropical tunes, R&B hitmaker Alexander Star brought his signature electric performance, Canadian performer David Cairol thrilled with his bold voice and reggae beats, and emerging talent Yung Wylin’ gave “Good Energy” to open the show.
“This year’s Afro Carib Festival was a tremendous success,” said Miramar Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis. “The performances were stellar, and the food and merchandise from local vendors were a huge hit. Folks really enjoyed a great evening singing and dancing along to their favorite songs from Koffee, Tekno, and Jacob Forever. Yung Wylin’, Alexander Star and J. Perry also thrilled the crowd. What a way to celebrate Black History Month and Reggae Month! Stay tuned as next year’s event will be even bigger and better!”
During the festival, Commissioner Davis was joined on stage by Mayor Wayne Messam and Commissioner Maxwell Chambers. Other notable attendees included Jamaica Consul General Oliver Mair, City of West Park Commissioners Joy Smith and Dr. Katrina Touchstone; Tamarac Vice Mayor Marlon Bolton, Coral Springs Commissioner Nancy Mateyer -Bowen and Mayor of Kingston, Jamaica, Delroy Williams. Popular Miami radio personality Papa Keith of Miami’s 103.5 The Beat and TV personality Jody-Ann Gray emceed the entire festival.
