AFUWI Launches Caribbean Jazz Matazz In Florida

Fundraiser to Aid UWI Students with Tuition

The American Foundation for the University Of The West Indies (AFUWI) in association with Riddims Marketing will present Caribbean Jazz Matazz Saturday, September 28 at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Proceeds will provide scholarships to deserving students to attend UWI at various campuses throughout the Caribbean.

With an impressive lineup of top-notch performers, Caribbean Jazz Matazz promises a mesmerizing fusion of jazz, reggae and calypso music for an unforgettable evening of island sound. Featuring famed saxophonist Arturo Tappin from Barbados, renowned steel panist Leon Foster Thomas from Trinidad & Tobago, jazz guitarist Eugene Grey and vocalist Gem Myers from Jamaica, Caribbean Jazz Matazz will delight audiences with its dynamic blend of smooth jazz, rhythmic calypso and off-beat reggae influences. The Dillard Center for the Arts Jazz Ensemble, which continues to shine as the premiere high school jazz band that has won numerous awards, makes a special appearance that you will not want to miss.

AFUWI Chairman Mr. Lowell Hawthorne stated”I am inviting all residents of South Florida to support Caribbean Jazz Matazz – an evening of jazz, reggae and calypso fusion – to benefit students of the University of the West Indies who are striving to obtain a tertiary education.  Investing in the lives of our youth today, will undoubtedly reap future rewards.  I am proud to be associated with the American Foundation for the University of the West Indies and would encourage everyone to support this worthy cause.”

VIP ticket holders will be feted at a pre-concert reception where they will have an opportunity to meet and greet celebrities, UWI officials as well as network with corporate executives. Patrons are urged to purchase tickets early, as indications are that this will be a sold-out event with strong support coming from the UWI Alumni South Florida Chapter as well as fans of the performers.

“We are extremely excited to present this diversified group of talented Caribbean performers for such a worthy cause” stated Eddy Edwards, CEO of Riddims Marketing, co-producers of the event in association with AFUWI. “The audience will be thrilled by the quality of entertainment they will experience, and the Dillard Center for the Arts Jazz Ensemble will garner new fans as they will make an impressive impact with their performance.” Edwards added.
