Jamaica’s national airline AIR JAMAICA will celebrate the second annual AIR JAMAICA DAY in Toronto on Saturday, August 20 from 11AM to 4PM in the parking lot at the corner of Eglinton and Oakwood.

“Billed as a day to say thank you to Toronto for their continued support of the “Love Bird”, the family fun day will consist of a host of events and opportunities for those who visit AIR JAMAICA DAY to win trips to Jamaica and many other prizes”, says George deMercado,Air Jamaica’s former Regional Manager for Canada and currently Senior Executive for Community and Special Market Sales.

A preview to the AIR JAMAICA DAY will see the return of last year’s “Window Display Competition”. Businesses on Eglinton Avenue West, from Bathurst to Dufferin will mount a display in their window from August 15th through 20th utilizing the Air Jamaica colours and will be judged on their creativity and the utilization of Air Jamaica’s colours by a panel of judges. Like last year’s winner, Agua Salon, the winner will get a trip for two to Kingston, Jamaica on Air Jamaica. Second and third prizes are a trip for one to Kingston.

Kicking off at 11AM on August 20, with the singing of Canada’s and Jamaica’s National Anthems, the host of activities include the popular “Lick A Six” Domino tournament where the winning duo will win a trip for two to Kingston. The “Jamaica Culture Contest” will feature performances of Jamaican Dance in the 15-25 and the 40 plus age group. Winners will receive $100 gift certificates. The ‘younger generation’ will share their knowledge of Jamaica’s culture through performances of Jamaica’s Cultural Icon, Louise Bennett’s poetry or singing Jamaican folk songs. All contestants will receive certificates of participation and first and second place winners in the 7 and under and 12 and under age groups will win backpacks stacked with back to school supplies.

Hundreds of prizes will be given away on the novelty wheel. A lucky person who spins

the wheel, can win gifts donated by the event’s sponsors and Air Jamaica. This year’s sponsors are Canada Extra, Caribbean Camera, Grace, Kennedy, Jamaica National, Jamaica National Money Transfer, Jamaica Tourist Board, Pride, Senvia, Share Newspaper, Victoria Mutual Building Society, Weekly Gleaner, Weekly Star and Western Union.

During the week of August 15-20 customers of Eglinton businesses between Bathurst and Dufferin can complete a ballot and leave it in the store and have the chance to win a trip to Kingston, Jamaica. Visitors to AIR JAMAICA DAY can also sign up on the site on Saturday August 20. The draw will take place near the end of AIR JAMAICA DAY.

The winner must be there to win.

“During AIR JAMAICA DAY, we are pleased to be giving back to our Canadian and Jamaican customers who continue to support Air Jamaica, as well as share the information on up coming travel deals that we will have available”, says Area Sales Manager Norma Sale. The sweet sounds of Jamaica’s reggae music will flow throughout the day from DJ Funky, with a special appearance by CHRY’s Natty B. There will be performances by special guests and a live broadcast on FLOW 93.5.
