Air Jamaica Spreads Wings in Eastern Caribbean

NEW YORK, (JIS): Wednesday, January 17, 2007 – Paul Pennicook, Air Jamaica’s Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, addressing luncheon in New York City on January 11, where he gave details of the airline’s new and expanded service to the Eastern Caribbean states of Barbados, St. Lucia and Grenada.

With the January 10 launch of its new daily flights to Barbados from the John F Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York, Air Jamaica is once again seeking to spread its wings more in the Eastern Caribbean.

Speaking at a lunch reception on January 11, at the Water’s Club, to announce the start of its expanded service to the Eastern Caribbean, George deMercado, Vice President of Sales, said that, “Air Jamaica considers the Eastern Caribbean an integral part of the Air Jamaica system now and for the foreseeable future”.

The expanded service follows the recent shut down by British West Indian Airways (BWIA) after 66 years and the decision by Caribbean Airlines to drop Barbados from its non-stop New York schedule.

As a result of the new, daily flights to Barbados from JFK Airport, Air Jamaica will also offer four weekly non-stop flights to St. Lucia on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, while Grenada will benefit from three weekly non-stop flights on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Paul Pennicook, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing with Air Jamaica told the gathering that he too, was “extremely proud of the revamped service to the Eastern Caribbean as Air Jamaica was definitely the best airline to the Caribbean”.

“I believe the service fills a well-needed void and we are confident that travellers will benefit from this option,” he said.

Mr. Pennicook, a former Director of the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), also used the occasion to announce the appointment of Ruder Finn Agency as Air Jamaica’s new public relations unit.

Ruder Finn already handles the public relations portfolio of the JTB from its Second Avenue, Midtown Manhattan headquarters.

Attending the reception were regional tourist board officials, tour operators
and media personnel.
