Jamaica welcomed the first AirTran Airways flight from Baltimore today. To officially kick off the new nonstop service, travelers were greeted in Montego Bay with a Jamaican celebration.

“The new nonstop flight from AirTran makes it even easier for travelers from Baltimore to visit Jamaica. Just a three-and-a-half hour flight away, Jamaica is an easily accessible warm-weather escape,” said Jamaica’s Director of Tourism John Lynch. “With more than 150 attractions, an assortment of accommodations from rustic to luxurious, and natural beauty that ranges from the crystal blue Caribbean Sea to the lush Blue Mountains, Jamaica has something for everyone.”

Upon arrival in Montego Bay, the flight was welcomed with a ceremonial water arch, and once passengers entered the terminal they were greeted with a mento band, welcome beads and a special reception.

“Getting to the warm, inviting beaches of Jamaica has never been easier,” said Roger Morenc, Director of Revenue Management, AirTran Airways. “We are very excited about offering the only low-cost service on this route and believe both the people of Baltimore and Montego Bay will benefit from this added service.”

The daily nonstop flight departs BWI at 8:55 a.m. and arrives at MBJ at 12:19 p.m. The return flight departs MBJ 4:00 p.m. and arrives at BWI at 7:28 p.m.

AirTran Airways launched two additional nonstop flights to Jamaica today from Atlanta and Orlando.
