Dancehall deejay, Alley Cat, aka Imperial, is currently making the rounds as he vigorously promotes his latest album,Dancehall Knowledge Volume 2.
Quite excited about his latest project, Alley Cat, who changed his moniker to Imperial some years ago, has been studying various aspects of the music business in an effort to become more rounded. Having been on the music scene since 1996, Alley Cat has travelled the world with major dancehall acts including Beenie Man and the Shocking Vibes Crew. The deejay has seen and has done many things and is now at a point in his career where he feels comfortable managing his own affairs.
“I took a leave of absence from the road for a while and have gone to school to study studio engineering and also learned to play the guitar. I gained a lot of hands-on experience just by being an artiste and working with some of the best producers, engineers and promoters in the music business,” explained the deejay who was christened Albert Richards.
He noted that Dancehall Knowledge Volume I signaled his intention to be a triple threat – artiste, song-writer and producer – and with this latest offering, he feels he has definitely come into his own.
“I am not blowing my own trumpet, but the album is an interesting mix of clean, positive songs. I have stayed true to form and have delivered a product that I am confident the buying public will like,” Alley Cat aka Imperial said.
Dancehall Knowledge Volume II features collaboration with the Monster Hemphigher as well as Ikaya, whose vocals can be heard song, Virtuous Woman, which is one of the singles being promoted and getting a lot of attention from music lovers.
In addition to the album, he has a slew of singles making noise on the scene, including Party Spree, Finally, Bruk Out feat. Stone and Miss Independent.
Alley Cat, aka Imperial, says his guiding principles in the business are excellence and commitment. Currently, he travels between Florida and Jamaica and is enjoying full international recognition, especially in the US, where radio is showing him much love.
Between his own tracks and the work being done for other artistes, Alley Cat has more than good reason to be optimistic. He’s getting great response from the material that’s out now, but has no intention of succumbing to complacency.
Dancehall Knowledge Volume II was released in October and is distributed in the US by Island Entertainment. It is available on all major digital download stores including Amazon, iTunes and Rhapsody.
