Angel Checks In At Royal Palm Estate

Banton Backing Vocalist Makes TV Acting Debut

Buju Banton backing vocalist, Angel Shalome, has landed a role on the hit Jamaican soap opera, Royal Palm Estate, which, in addition to airing Sunday nights at 9:00pm on CVM in Jamaica, is shown in Trinidad and on Youtube.

Her recurring character, ‘Natalie,’ is a part-time university student and air stewardess who falls for her deceased sister’s deportee ex-boyfriend. Angel says, “[The producers] called me out of the blue and said they were ready for me, so I said, ‘Ok!'”

The former child prodigy, who has been singing professionally from the age of eight, admits that acting comes quite naturally to her. “People have been very encouraging. It’s not my first time acting, but it’s my first time doing it on film. I’ll also get to do some singing on the show,” she adds. “They are writing it into the script so some of my music will be featured in different episodes.”

As far as her music career goes, Angel is working on her debut album and has released a number of singles in the UK thus far, including, “Rock & Come In” on the Dill Ox Inta label, a cover version of John Holt’s “Love I Can Feel” and a cover of Dennis Brown’s “Your Love Got A Hold On Me.” featuring Yellowman.
