Anticipation Heightens As Artistes Prepare For Digicel Christmas Concert 2011

Telecommunications Company Showcases Bigger Better Family Entertainment

As the anticipation heightens for the Digicel Christmas Concert which promises to deliver exciting family entertainment to patrons this season. The artistes in the line-up are also in high spirits as they look forward to a great event. The concert will be headlined by international, Grammy nominated Gospel artiste Tye Tribbett and will also feature Reggae Gospel legend and Dynamic Music Minister, Carlene Davis; the widely popular Digicel Rising Star and conscious youth supporter Romain Virgo; equally popular local Gospel artiste and Digicel Brand Ambassador Jermaine Edwards; and the 2011 Digicel Rising Stars Top 3, winner Tash and Latty J and Delando.

In commenting on the concert, Romaine Virgo said: “It’s always a good when you have a big company like Digicel always trying to find a way to give back to the people. The line-up is awesome, because it has Gospel artistes, not music that you have to worry about, it’s really an event for the whole family to enjoy and I personally like band shows. The set we rehearsing already is amazing, so it’s just gonna be a great show! Mi just ago guh out deh and mek sure the people them enjoy them Christmas!” said Romain Virgo, whose conscious hits like Who Feels it Knows it and Rain is Falling, have soared locally and climbed international charts.

Also teeming with excitement about the show is Jamaican Gospel Legend Carlene Davis, who over the past three decades has acquired too many hits to count:  “I’m very excited!  I think it’s a great thing to see corporate Jamaica reaching out and giving back to the community, especially at such a crucial time in our country where people need to hear some music that lifts and encourages, to start the new year on the right foot!”

While Davis is excited about the concert’s line up, she is even more excited about her musical set: “Tye rocks, and he’s really a man of God, Jermaine Edwards, I really love his ministry, and Romain Virgo, who has always been one of my favourite Rising Stars, and this year’s Digicel Rising Stars contestants, I’m really excited to share the stage with all of these talented artistes.  But most of all I’m just looking forward to just sharing my heart in song, and to encourage those who come out that there is a Joy in serving God!  So I plan on doing songs that share this message, songs such as Ambassador for Christ, Threshing Floor, This Island Needs Jesus, my Christmas carols and all of those other songs that Jamaica has really helped me bring to number one.  I also plan to buss my new song Nobody Greater, we’ll be performing it for the first time live at the concert, so I’m very excited, excited to just share the good news with people, that Jesus loves them!”

Meanwhile, with four hit Gospel albums under his belt, local Gospel legend in the making and Digicel Brand Ambassador, Jermaine Edwards is just happy for a change this year, with emphasis finally being placed on good clean music: “I like the difference, just starting the season off right with a Christmas concert that includes Gospel music, and celebrates the real reason for the season, love.” Edwards also expressed “Everyone in the line up does good music, with good substance, and I think people are going to appreciate the good music. And it’s Digicel, and when Digicel does something, it’s big!” he laughed.

As for the Digicel Rising Stars 2011 top 3, they are all excited to be able to finally share a stage with international artistes while still upholding the standards that Digicel has set for them.

“I feel honoured to just do something with Digicel again, It feels good to see me make it this far, to be on a stage with international artistes.” Said third place winner Delando Colley.

The first place winner, Tash, is just glad that the company she represents supports Jamaican culture, and is giving her another chance to shine: “I’m really glad Digicel is doing this concert, because it is our culture, Gospel music and Reggae is what we are most known for, and I am glad they are embracing that. Plus it gives more people a chance to get to know Tash, and what I’m capable of. I’m excited to be working with the line up, mostly because majority of them have been in the business for so long, and I’m hoping to learn something from them. They all sing so well and it’s all conscious music, and I have that conscious vibe too, so I definitely think the crowd will enjoy themselves”.

First runner up, the immensely talented Latty J on the other hand reveals that the talent flooded stage may just reveal a few surprises as well, “My set is going to be something fun and exciting, a few Christmas songs, something soulful, and definitely my new single!”  she said.

Digicel’s Senior Sponsorship Manager, Shelly-Ann Curran says Digicel wanted to start the season right:  “This concert is family entertainment at its best, the response so far from our customers has really been very encouraging, we are really excited to be joining Jamaica’s Biggest family, our customers, come November 17, 2011.We are confident the line up we have selected will carry this out with a highly entertaining show the whole family can enjoy!”, in closing she also hinted, “We encourage fans to stay tuned to our Digicel Facebook page as we have lots in store for them”.
