On Saturday, May 12, 2012, Society For The Advancement Of The Caribbean Diaspora (SACD) will host A Pre-Mother’s Day Musical Experience which will be held at Saint Francis College, located at 182 Remsen Street in Brooklyn from 6pm to 9pm. Headlining this entertaining event will be two very popular groups. The first group that will take the stage will be the dynamic Braata Folk Singers led by Andrew Clarke and the second group will be the famous Jazzberry Jam led by Bertha Hope. Jazzberry Jam appearance is sponsored by the New York Jazz Foundation.

Both groups have an extensive repertoire that is entertaining and exciting. “Braata has been celebrating and showcasing Caribbean folk culture since its formation in July 2009 through presentations to the Caribbean community and the general public. The company has performed to great reviews at venues including the Jamaican Consulate in New York, City Hall in Manhattan, Bronx Borough Hall, and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture among many areas across the New York Tri-state area. The group fuses music, movement and drama with an emphasis on a cultural context. Included among its repertoire is a wide range of folk forms such as, Kumina, Dinki-Mini, Revival, Mento,
Ring Games and Nine Night.”

Jazzberry Jam performs Jazz music from the Americas and have been playing for many years at various venues around the city. “Jazzberry Jam! is the best-kept secret in the world of Jazz. This forceful group of women dares to be personable without compromising their remarkable cohesion on the bandstand. They evoke standing ovations from loving audiences everywhere they go. After years of working in the United States, Jazzberry Jam! is eagerly being sought after in international venues. Their journey is your journey to ‘stomp’ at the Savoy, ‘bop’ at Birdland, and have a taste of their own well-crafted compositions.

Jazzberry Jam! honors Swing, the Blues and their own musical point of view with a joyousness both informative and entertaining – with passion and humor – and more than a little elegance! Jazzberry Jam! – the ultimate taste experience in Jazz!!”

Included in the program also are three very talented young artists. They are Ms. Monica Soyemi, classical, Cara Smith, John Davis, R&B. jazz and Christopher Lilley, gospel.
