Four of Jamaica’s most renowned artists who comprise the Jamaican Artists Alliance – Paul Blackwood, Alphanso Blake, Lennox Coke and Courtney Morgan – will exhibit their work at Ripe Kitchen and Bar in Mt. Vernon, New York on October 22nd, 2006 at 6 p.m. The exhibit, aptly titled One Night Stand: A Show of Contemporary Jamaican Art, contains highly emotive and distinctive pieces which offer an authentic interpretation of the powerfully intricate legacy of the Jamaican people and culture.
Fresh off a successful showing at the annual Art on the Main series at the Puck Building in New York City and speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Courtney Morgan conveyed the group’s enthusiasm at the upcoming exhibit in Mt. Vernon .
“We are very excited about having a show in Westchester for the first time and to meeting those interested in our work on a much more intimate level,” he stated. “This installation includes various styles – still life, collage, realism and abstract art and we hope that it will be as well received as it was in Manhattan”, he continued.
Ripe’s owner and manager Nigel Spence, formerly of the Food Network, expressed his delight at being able to host the event.
“We relish the opportunity to host our Jamaican artists because, in addition to providing a chance for them to share their work with the world, to have them do so in a town that has such a large population of Caribbean nationals is like a homecoming of sorts.”
This will be the second art show that has been installed at Ripe as Jamaican artists Kibo and Philip Supersad exhibited their work in the fall of 2005.
