ManifestoJamaica is a new non-governmental organization run by an energetic team of young Jamaicans who believe in the power of Arts and Culture as a driving force for responsible national development. Manifesto is hosting a three-part series of events at Bookophilia entitled ART’ical Exposure.
ART’ical Exposure will come in three flavours, the first being ’Poetic License’ on Friday August 13 from 6 – 10 pm with headliners Jason Worton, Ganja and Yashika Graham. Artwork from three artists – Warren Buckle, Kori Soloman and Chungknight will be on display. There will also be a selection of work from Jamaican and Cuban artists, provided by the Wijicoon Gallery.
On August 27, it will continue with ‘Roots Rock,’ featuring the likes of Protoje, Janine “Jah9” Cunningham and Naptali.
The final event of the series, ‘Rhyme & Reason,’ will be held on September 10 with Kabaka Pyramid, Five Steez and Kariuki leading the pack. The host will be Shaq the MC whose spontaneity is known to captivate crowds. Musical entertainment will be provided by DJ Sawandi. Each night will also feature an open mic and an art exhibition and sale on books inside the store.
The ART’ical Exposure three-part literary and musical series will take place on August 13, 27 and September 10, 2010. Gates open at 6pm; show time begins at 7pm. Admission is free and the suggested contribution is $500 for persons who wish to support the NGO, ManifestoJamaica.
