Just a few days after announcing its sponsorship of more than 23 local relay teams, telecommunication company LIME has confirmed that brand ambassador, former world record holder Asafa Powell will be making a special appearance at the 2012 Penn Relays scheduled for this month end.
 
Powell, who has been signed to LIME since 2005, will be making the trip to Philadelphia as part of the LIME experience for fans during the final day of the Games.
 
“Asafa is one of the most loved athletic stars in the world so we are very happy that he will be part of our connection with our friends and family members who are away from home. The ‘Penn Relays’ is a highly anticipated event so LIME and Asafa on the ground is brawta for the fans,” says Grace Silvera, LIME’s Regional VP, Marketing & Corporate Communications.
 
“Both Asafa and Yohan Blake, our newest brand ambassador, will feature prominently in our activities around Jamaica 50 and the 2012 London Olympics.  Our support of Team Jamaica Bickle and Asafa’s appearance at the Penn Relays is part of building the momentum as we prepare to celebrate this special period in out our nation’s history,” she explained.
 
Though he will not be participating in the meet Powell, who last week gave words of encouragement to the secondary school teams who will be attending the Games, says he is ‘pumped’ to have the opportunity to attend the Games and give support to the student athletes, while representing LIME.
 
“The Jamaican support at the Penn Relays is awesome, so I am definitely looking forward to spending the day with the athletes and thousands of Jamaicans in the diaspora who will attend,” Powell explains.
 
Commenting on his Olympic preparations he said: “Everyday I am strictly focused on preparing for the Olympics, to make the London 2012 Olympics my best.”
 
Recently LIME announced that for the 20th year in a row it would be providing support for local high school teams attending the Games valued at over $2.3 million.
 
The company also announced that it will be continuing its support of Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB), a not for profit based in New York, that hosts Jamaican and groups of Caribbean Athletes during their participation in the Penn Relays. The support is wide ranging but heavily focused on meals, transportation, medical/chiropractic care and hospitality to the athletes during their stay in Pennsylvania.
