Beginning Friday, October 3, Digicel will offer its support to the Jamaica Government’s official homecoming for our national athletes. The athletes took Beijing by storm this summer, and to celebrate, government leaders will host an ‘around town’ float parade in Kingston of which Digicel will also be a proud sponsor.
Beginning at 11AM, on Friday October 3, Government officials and Digicel along with other sponsors will formally congratulate the athletes for their successes at the Norman Manley Airport. Immediately following the reception, the athletes will board the Digicel ‘Olympic Dreams’ float which will make stops in all the major towns in Kingston, including some of the athletes’ own communities (see Parade Route below).
This Friday’s celebrations are the first of many in the week to come (see schedule below). Most notably, on Friday, October 10, Digicel will host a special event for Jamaica’s Olympic athletes at Vale Royal. The dinner, which will be under the patronage of Prime Minister Bruce Golding, will be in appreciation of the country’s Olympians creating positive international pathways for Brand Jamaica. The night of elegant celebrations will see the athletes being presented with gifts from Digicel, and a silent auction will be held to raise funds for the Special Olympics team.
Digicel Jamaica’s CEO Mark Linehan explains Digicel’s rational for getting involved in the week-long celebrations: “As a Jamaican company, we are always looking for ways to give something back to our near 2 million customers and to Jamaica as a whole. Helping to support the team and now celebrating its success with the rest of Jamaica is just one of the ways we’re doing that.”
The celebrations to honour our national athletes will run from Friday October 3 to Friday October 10.
