Two Jamaicans Among 2009 Woman Of Great Esteem Awardees

The Woman of Great Esteem (WGE) Organization of New York, USA, will host its Fourteenth Annual Awards Dinner and Gala on Saturday, March 28th, 2009 at 7:00pm at the elegant Palm House, on the grounds of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, located at 1000 Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.

The evening themed “An Emerald Night in Brooklyn” honors six powerful women, among them: Humanitarian and Community Activist, Nelcia Robinson-Hazell who hails from St. Vincent & The Grenadines; Political leader, Dr. Gracita R. Arrindell from St. Maarten, Entrepreneur, Jane Ip from Hong Kong; Medical Doctor and Educator, Dr. Rosemarie Wright-Pascoe from Jamaica; Attorney & Managing Partner of Davidson & Grannum, Sandra Grannum, Esq., also from Jamaica  and Posthumous Awardee, Congresswoman, Stephanie Tubbs-Jones from the United States.

Each year the Woman of Great Esteem – Emerald Award – Organization recognizes the contributions of women who have excelled beyond normal expectations in society; more specifically, the institution honors women worldwide for their extraordinary contributions to the advancement of world peace. According to WGE founder, the Rt. Rev. Sylveta Hamilton-Gonzales, “the Emerald Award honors these women who are precious like the emerald.” It’s a medium that empowers its recipients to ascend to their next level on the ladder of accomplishments and world recognition.

Celia Zuckerman, President and CEO of New York Congregational Nursing Center and a 2007 Woman of Great Esteem recipient will be the evening’s Keynote Speaker. Sharon Gordon of TSO Productions, will host this year’s ceremony.

The red carpet affair will begin promptly at 7:00 pm., with a soiree and served appetizers, followed by the award ceremony and dinner at 8:00pm. Live music will be provided by the dynamic Vision Band and dancing until 12:00 am.

2009 marks the fourth year since the “The Emerald Awards” migrated to Brooklyn, from its stay at midtown Manhattan’s United Nations Millennium Hotel. Corporate partners for this year’s celebrations include; Citibank, Bermuda Department of Tourism, The New York Congregational Nursing Center and Caribbean Food Delights.
