Jamaican Athletes’ Education Assisted By Jampact Through Team Jamaica Bickle

PENN RELAYS HOLDS PROMISE OF OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE FOR JAMAICAN ATHLETES

New York, NY—Jamaica Impact Inc., “JAMPACT” continues to support Jamaican athletes’ education through Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) at the annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA., Saturday, April 29, 2006. JAMPACT President, Kamar Samuels will present a check to Mr. Irwine G. Clare, Sr., Executive Director and Founder of Team Jamaica Bickle, at the Prize Giving Ceremony and Reception shortly after the games at 6 p.m. JAMPACT’s contribution will go towards scholarship aid for the athletes.

“It is a great time in the history of Jamaican track and field,” noted Mr. Samuels, “Penn Relays gives us a unique opportunity to support both current and future stars while having a lot of fun.” The organization currently supports five basic schools in its Adopt-A-School Program, demonstrating the group’s steadfast commitment to education. He expounded, “We are proud of our association with Team Jamaica Bickle over the years and we look forward to continuing our relationship.”

Team Jamaica Bickle’s mission is to ‘provide the Jamaican Athletes and their coaches with support and amenities which will help in maximizing their athletic performance…at Penn Relays.’ Acknowledging its 11th year of service, Mr. Clare noted that preparations were in place. He concluded, “TJB thanks JAMPACT for contributions towards making the stay of ‘our athletes, our ambassadors’ a successful one.” In an exuberant statement, he was quick to underscore that “contributions from community-based organizations help to ensure the continuity of our presentation but importantly demonstrates the wide level of participation at all levels of Team Jamaica Bickle.”

Excitement and anticipation looms expectantly for a repeat outstanding performance of the recent historical win of Jamaican athletes at the “Friendly” Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, where Jamaicans medaled 22 times (10 gold, 4 silver and 8 bronze). The Commonwealth Games, the first of the outdoor track and field competitions, followed indoor meets, one of which was the 99th annual Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden on February 3rd, which declared Veronica “VC” Campbell the ‘Fastest Woman in the World.’ The tradition of high level track and field performance by mostly high school-aged athletes was demonstrated once again at the recently held events of Gibson Relays and VMBS Boys and Girls Athletic Championships. Sports enthusiasts filled the Jamaica’s National Stadium and were thrilled with the incredible performances of future Olympians. Kingston College and Vere Technical high schools both earned the # 1 High School Boys and Girls Champions, respectively.

Penn Relays promises to be just as charged with high energy and drawing a wide cross section of Jamaicans from the Caribbean and North America. JAMPACT is taking their largest group to date, of thirty members and friends to cheer on Jamaican athletes. They will be seated in section SJ, rows 11-30 south side of the stadium near the finish line with Manchester High School Alumni Association and friends.
