‘Ancestors Voices’ – A Celebration Of Black History And African Heritage, March 1, 2009, Jamaica

WHAT: In recognition of African heritage to the Jamaican culture, the Jamaica Youth Chorale (JYC) a 40 member (SATB) group of university and high school students across the island will host Gala Concert – Ancestors Voices on March 1, 2009.

HOST: Jamaica Youth Advocacy Network under the patronage of Dr. Karen Hilliard, Mission Director – United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

GUESTS: April Jackson – Miss Jamaica Universe, Prof. Trevor Munroe, and others

WHEN: Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 6:30 pm

WHERE: UWI Chapel, University of the West Indies

WHY: Ancestors Voices is a celebration of African retentions in religious forms. This concert of Spirituals (American and Jamaican) and Jamaican Traditional folk music, will feature works by American composers Moses Hogan and William Dawson as well as local works by Gregory Simms (Director) and Dr. Olive Lewin among others. Works in Nyabinghi, Revivalism and memories of the old time country church are features of this event accompanied by professional drumming.
