Brooklyn marks Jamaica’s 43rd anniversary of independence with an evening of dance, music and Jamaican delicacies, hosted by the Hon. Dr. Basil K. Bryan, Consul General of Jamaica, and featuring gospel and folk musicians, performers from the Caribbean Cultural Theatre, May Pole dancers, and the New Kingston Band. On August 6, 1962 the island of Jamaica was freed from occupation to become an independent nation. This celebration at Borough Hall recognizes that important milestone with invited guests including political, spiritual, and community leaders.
