Capoeira Mandinga Shanghai’s third annual Batizado is coming!

Capoeira Mandinga Shanghai’s third annual Batizado and Troca de Corda will take place on Saturday, September 11th, 2009, at Stargym in Wuyi Road from 4pm to 6pm.  The celebration will be a visual and musical extravaganza showcasing capoeira and Brazilian dance and musical performances.  In addition to the dedicated local students, there will be professional “mestres”, dedicated experienced instructors from Brazil, Japan and the USA: Mestre Espirro Mirim from Cordao de Ouro (Tucson), Contra Mestre Espeto, Capoeira Forca da Arte Osaka and Contra Mestre Cipó from Capoeira Mandinga Mexico Cuernavaca.  The guest of honour and headliner will be Mestre Marcelo – world-renowned capoeirista, founder of Capoeira Mandinga and model for Tekken’s Eddie Gordo – one of the greatest video game characters of all time.

Capoeira is a Brazilian martial arts form, derived from African roots, that combines music, dance and gymnastics, performed in an energetic and spectacular setting. Unlike traditional martial arts, Capoeira is graceful, cultural and physically challenging. With the combination of singing and musical instrumentals, it makes this a great spectator sport.
