Caribbean Association Of Georgia Hosts Atlanta Caribbean Spring Festival To Celebrate National Caribbean-American Heritage Month, June 23, 2012

Six years ago the President of the United States enacted a Resolution which proclaimed June as National Caribbean-American Heritage Month. This momentous undertaking was the culmination of the dedication, commitment and tireless efforts of California Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Dr. Claire Nelson, founder and president of the Institute of Caribbean Studies in Washington, DC.

 

In celebration of National Caribbean-American Heritage Month, the Caribbean Association of Georgia (CAG) will be hosting the 3rd annual Atlanta Caribbean Spring Festival on Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 1 pm to 8 pm at the Historic McDonough Square, McDonough, Georgia 30253. Additionally, this festival will commemorate Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago’s 50th Anniversary of their Independence.

 

The Atlanta Caribbean Spring Festival will celebrate the many contributions made by Caribbean Americans; educate and expose the public to a diverse and rich range of cultural expressions; celebrate the diverse culture; invigorate community spirit; enhances the quality of life in the community; allow accessibility to all audience; and provide a quality, inexpensive, and entertaining event.

 

The festival promises to provide lots of fun, excitement, culture and entertainment for all ages. There will be food; live performances; vendors; DJ; contests; prizes; voter registration; free medical screening; free dental exams; Caribbean cultural dancers; fashion show and more. There will also be traditional Caribbean games and tournaments such as dominoes; snakes and ladder; and ludo. The kid’s fun zone will include inflatables; face painting; limbo; tug of war and other games and contests. Local Caribbean Americans will have an opportunity to showcase their talents on stage. The festival’s sponsors and partners include Sign A Rama (McDonough), Law Office of Hugh G. Cooper, LLC, Mangos Caribbean Restaurant, and the Institute of Caribbean Studies.
