The Caribbean Community of Retired Persons (CCRP) was today launched by Sir Kenneth Hall retired Governor General of Jamaica, and Honorary Director of CCRP.

The main goals of CCRP are:

  • To ensure that retired persons are allowed to contribute to national and regional development as we acknowledge their vast resource of expertise, and experience.
  • To provide services to enhance the lives of retired persons and their families in the Caribbean community.
  • To serve as a unified voice for its members.
  • To be a powerful lobby group for national and regional issues, particularly those related to retired persons.

Hon Lascelles Chin, Chairman of the CCRP stated, “CCRP will promote self-reliance, national development and regional unity. These values are sorely needed at this time… Not only do we need our senior community, they need us. More than ever, ladies and gentlemen, we have been given, with the formation of the CCRP, an opportunity to come together for the greater good.”

Founder/CEO of the organization, Jean Lowrie-Chin said, “Our mission at CCRP is to ensure that the vast talent, experience and wisdom of our retired persons will be respected, and that they will enjoy the quality of life they deserve, having made their contribution to the development of community, country and region.”
Mrs. Lowrie-Chin added, CCRP will provide financial planning advice, information on health and wellness, opportunities for volunteering as well as mentoring young persons, free educational seminars, games, discounts with various agencies and retail outlets, social interactions and many other benefits.

Modelled on the well-known American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), which has a powerful lobby voice in that country’s Government, the CCRP aims to be the vital resource for retired persons (and those approaching retirement). According to the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN), there are presently over 450,000 persons in the fifty-plus age group in Jamaica, and STATIN further reports that the fastest growing cohort of the population is those 65 years and older.

Other members of the CCRP Board of Directors are Vice Chairman Dr. the Hon. Denise Eldemire-Shearer; Chief Operations Officer Mrs. Hermine Metcalfe and Board members Syringa Marshall-Burnett, Lester Spaulding, Aloun N’doumbet-Assamba, Prof. Trevor Jackson and Sharon Deheny-Walker. The Launch was held at the Knutsford Court Hotel.
