Dear friends:
You are cordially invited to participate in the inaugural “Caribbean Leadership Summit & Workshop” to be held on Saturday Sept. 17th, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Essex County College, Newark.
The summit, entitled “Building an Influential Caribbean Diaspora Community,” is coordinated through the collaboration of the United Caribbean American Network of New Jersey (UCAN – NJ) and the college’s Africana Institute, in consultation with other organizations in the State.
Plans for the event is ongoing, but among our early general objectives for the gathering are:
• Identifying and developing a master list of all active Caribbean American organizations in New Jersey and the rest of the tri-state area;
• Creating database of leadership/contact information for all of our organizations;
• Develop a Community Calendar to ensure sharing information about different programs, activities and current initiatives;
• Creating an effective system of communication and information distribution;
• Galvanizing ourselves to create a cultural, economical and political identity;
• Moving towards a single Caribbean umbrella organization.
Presently, MANY Caribbean organizations are in essence seeking to achieve ONE common goal, namely the improvement and preservation of our homeland and of the Caribbean Community in the US; this summit is even more strikingly timely, and necessary.
We are excited about adding you to the growing list of participants. Please contact us right away to confirm your participation. You can RSVP via email at [email protected] or by calling 732-777-7871 or 973-223-5924.
Regards,
Honorable Elsie Foster-Dublin
