Caribbean teams from Curacao, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas will be competing as part of the 12th Annual Nike Dr. Martin Luther King, JR Holiday Basketball Classic January 12-13, 2007 at Miramar High School in Miramar, Florida.
“This is the second year that Caribbean teams are visiting and competing in this prestigious basketball Classic. My objective is to expose Caribbean basketball players and coaches to top level United States high school teams and competition. In addition, college scouts attend the MLK each year and I hope to expose Caribbean players to scholarship opportunities that would almost be impossible staying in the Caribbean. I will increase the invitations to additional islands in the future and encourage all basketball federations in the Caribbean to come over and TRAIN. On Saturday January 13, 2007 as part of the MLK Classic, local South Florida top basketball coaches will host a basketball clinic for Caribbean coaches and camp for the players. I ask all local residents of the competing Caribbean islands to come out and support your island”…Wesley Frater, Director MLK Basketball Classic and Jamaican born.
