CaribbeanTales will celebrate the regional launch of its new video on demand brand with an event at Rossco’s on Fitt Street, Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Saturday September 28th. Hosted by comedian Rachel Price, entertainment will include local group FreeTown and Nicolai Salsado from the band Gyazette.

The event will also feature the launch of a Caribbean-themed online video competition with prizes worth up to $5000 USD. All proceeds at the door will go towards The Cotton Tree Foundation charity. This first party will be a yearly event which will continue to showcase and celebrate Caribbean film and filmmakers, bringing together unique and creative minds for an evening of entertainment, dancing, spoken word, short films, and live music.

The CaribbeanTales-TV Video on Demand platform was launched internationally on Sept 12th during the Toronto International Film Festival. It draws on CaribbeanTales Worldwide Distribution’s catalogue of over 300 Caribbean–themed films, television programs, series and shorts, that will be rolled out to viewers initially on a pay per view basis. The company will launch a Netflix-style subscription option by December.

The new online filmmaker competition, called FLIM-O-RAMA, will be open to Caribbean nationals who are based anywhere in the Diaspora. Details of the competition, including the theme and deadline, will be announced at the event on September 28th.

The launch event and filmmaker competition are presented by CaribbeanTales and Friends, an association of  regional media companies that includes: Timmy Mora’s Visual Art T&T, Macfarlane Film – producers of JAB IN THE DARK, I am One TnT – a new organization set up to promote LGBTQ equality in the Region, Princess Donelan’s Princess Soldier Pix, Michael Mooleedhar’s Mooleedhar Company,  Akley Olton’s IREBEL Films, as well as CaribbeanTales-TV, and CT’s production arm CaribbeanTalesFLIX, whose first feature-length film, Kingston Paradise by Mary Wells, premiered at the CaribbeanTales Toronto Showcase earlier this month, winning the Audience Award.

Come enjoy an evening of good vibes: whether you’re an aspiring filmmaker, amateur, professional, or just want to share in an evening of great entertainment, music and dancing, come to Rossco’s on Saturday 28, for the birth of Flim-O-Rama.
