The Manchester Office of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will host an event in honour of the late Honourable Louise Bennett-Coverley entitled “TENK GOD FI MISS LOU AN DEM ADA ONE” on Monday, September 23, 2013 starting at 8:00 a.m. at the Manchester High School Auditorium.
The day’s activities include a mini symposium on the topic: “The impact of Miss Lou and Dem Ada One on Jamaica’s language, literature and lifestyle.” The discussants include Ms. Marcia Higgin, Lecturer at NCU, Mr. Norman Williams (son of the late Ranny Williams), Mr. Kevin O’Brien Chang and Mrs. Doreth Jones (niece of the late Ranny Williams). There will also be an Exhibition on Miss Lou and an exciting Tribute Concert featuring JCDC award-winning performers from Manchester and central Jamaica.
According to Mrs. Vivienne Morris–Brown, Cultural Organizer for the Parish of Manchester, it will be an eventful day in which we will recognize the contribution of Miss Lou, Maas Ran and other cultural icons on our unique language, literature and lifestyle. The audience will also have the opportunity to meet the family members of these great cultural icons.
The event is free and everyone is invited to come and be a part of this rich discussion and entertainment as JCDC celebrates and showcase the best of our unique culture.
