PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CELEBRITY SOCCER MATCH FOR BICENTENNIAL PARK

It’s the excitement of Manning Cup, Major League and World Cup soccer all wrapped up in one. Star struck fans screaming and cheering at the top of their lungs, in support of their favorite player, as opposing teams clash in four hotly contested matches to prove their soccer supremacy. It’s the annual Celebrity Soccer match between South Florida’s Media and Entertainers, scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 13, 2 – 8 p.m. at Bicentennial Park, Downtown Miami. Celebrity Soccer 2004 is presented by One-Xtra Magazine and Ridims Marketing Network; part proceeds will benefit the Needy Kids of Jamaica and the Air Jamaica Kidz Club.

This year’s event will feature four matches; South Florida’s Caribbean Media against the U.S. Media; Jamaican and Haitian Celebrities against Celebrities and DJs; Copa Latina Cup Champions Haiti Selecion against South Florida’s Team Jamaica and Jamaican Masters against their U.S. counterparts. The matches will be played on the newly established soccer field at Bicentennial Park, famous for its Reggae concerts and Carnivals.

A number of media personnel from mainstream radio and television have been invited to play against their Caribbean counterparts. Heading the list is sportscaster Frank Forte and Jimmy Cefalo from WPLG Channel 10, Jim Berry from CBS 4, Steve Shapiro and Mike Depasquale along with writers from the Miami Herald and Sun-Sentinel. They will be up against the likes of John T, Sir Rockwell, Ron Burke, Jamusa, Eddy Edwards, C-Roy, Pat Montague and Mikey B to name a few.

Leading the list of invitees for the entertainers is Beenie Man, Tanto Metro & Devontee, Freddy McGregor, Lady Saw, Tanya Stephens, Rupee, Kevin Little, Spragga Benz, Cobra and Red Rat. Many of them have played in past games and have indicated their willingness to participate again this year. There will be a lot of entertainers in town for the ReggaeSoca Music Awards scheduled to take place the night before, and it is anticipated that many of the entertainers will remain to play in the soccer match.

The highlight of the evening will be the match between the Miami Herald Copa Latina Champions, Haiti Select versus Team Jamaica, comprised from a selected list of Jamaica’s representatives in the South Florida area. There will be pre-game entertainment plus booths selling food, drink and craft items as well as a kid’s fun zone with clowns, face painting and several rides to keep the young ones occupied during the games.

The games are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and end at 8 p.m., and admission will be $10.00 for general admission and special V.I.P. $20.00 tickets are also available to fans who want to mingle with the players in a special area. Parking will be available at the park and patrons are urged to come out early to enjoy all four games.
