Celebrity Chef Nigel Spence Confirmed To Appear At Break Away Moments ‘Peek At Paradise’ Travel & Tourism Show

Celebrity Chef Nigel Spence has been confirmed to make a Special Guest Appearance at the upcoming ‘Peek At Paradise ‘ Travel & Tourism Show being held on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 at Hilton Hotel located at 6001 Destination Parkway , Orlando , Fl.   Located in the heart of Florida ‘s tourism area, the show is being designed to promote Caribbean and Florida ‘s travel and tourism interest.

Chef Nigel Spence will give a brief talk about Jamaica ‘s culinary heritage at the ‘Peek At Paradise ‘ travel show.

As part of the Culinary Institute of America’s intense and exclusive training program, Nigel interned at the Television Food Network. After graduating in 1997, Nigel was asked to stay on at the network which he did for approximately 3 years. TVFN afforded Nigel the opportunity to work with culinary luminaries such as Mario Batali, Bobby Flay and Emeril Lagasse.

Most recently, Chef Spence appeared on Throwdown with Bobby Flay where he emerged the victor in a jerk cook off against the Food Network star and was featured on WCBS (NY) when he appeared on Tony’s Table, WABC’s (NY) Neighborhood Eats, WNBC’s (NY) The Today Show , Sirius’ Everyday Living with Martha Stewart and TVFN’s Chopped. He was also profiled by Irie TV for the program Irie Diaries for the Caribbean International Network (CIN).

Chef Spence made his second appearance on the Food Network in less than a year. On May 25th, 2008 he was again pitted against celebrity chef Bobby Flay in a cooking rematch – Rematch on the Grill – filmed on location at the Biltmore in Florida . He was the only chef in that special who beat Bobby Flay a second time during competition.

In addition, throughout summer and fall ’08, Chef Spence was featured on the award winning in-flight program Island Stylee on Jamaica ’s national airline, Air Jamaica.

Following a successful lecture and demonstration on Caribbean cuisine at the Whole Foods Culinary Center in Manhattan , NY in January 2010, Nigel appeared for a return engagement on September 20, 2010. He was also chosen as one of the chefs featured in Bobby Flay’s new book which chronicles the best of his Throwdown with Bobby Flay series which was released later that month.

Ripe Kitchen and Bar has also received positive reviews from – and been featured  in – the following media outlets: The New York Times, The Journal News, Jamaican Eats, Jamaican Magazine, Jamaicans.com, Skywritings, The Westchester Magazine, Prevention Magazine, Cuisinenoir.com, Hudson Valley News, Jamrock Magazine, the Westchester Tribune and Caribbean Life.

Nigel will also be featured in a story about Jamaican cuisine in Saveur magazine in November 2011.

Nigel also makes appearances at the request of the Jamaica Tourist Board as the country’s ad hoc Culinary Ambassador for North America .
