All County employees are encouraged to wear RED on Tuesday, January 5, in support of 2010 Census Awareness Day, sponsored by the League of Cities and promoted by the Countywide Coordination Subcommittee of Broward County’s Complete Count Committee. On that day, thousands of local government employees from Broward County and various municipalities will “Paint the Town Red” to raise awareness of the 2010 Census, which will be conducted on April 1, 2010. The national Census occurs every 10 years and a complete count is important to ensure that local communities receive funding and legislative representation they are entitled to based on their population. It’s easy to participate – just dig through your closet for that red shirt, sweater, suit, scarf or tie and show your support for a Complete Count in Broward County next Tuesday, January 5 by wearing it to work. When people ask you why you’re wearing red, share these important Census messages:
- The Census is Coming – April 1, 2010. Please MAIL IT BACK!
- The form is simple – 10 questions take 10 minutes to answer.
- It’s safe to complete the Census – information cannot be shared with law enforcement, immigration, welfare or any government agency.
- Local communities receive funding for local services based on Census results.
- Population determines legislative representation.
