On Friday, October 30, 2009, the recently established Caribbean-American Journalist and Media Association, (CAJMA) will hold a general meeting at American Intercontinental University, 2250 N. Commerce Parkway in Weston starting at 6:30pm where they will induct and install the interim officers. The general meeting will be open to Caribbean-American nationals in all fields of the media industry.
CAJMA was established by Caribbean media professionals in an effort to network, have a national voice and unified vision for all Caribbean-American journalists and media professionals. CAJMA is dedicated to the recognition and professional advancement of Caribbean-Americans in the media industry and the community in general.
Bernadette Morris, CEO of Sonshine Communications will be the Keynote Speaker, and will share her expertise on “Preparing Your Proposal to Present to An Advertising Agency” to the newly formed group. Miramar’s Commissioner Barbara Schrief will swear in the new officers with Rodney Baltimore from QHQT-HOT 105 and Michael Aitcheson from WAVS 1170AM as Masters of Ceremonies for the evening.
As the population of Caribbean nationals continues to grow in South Florida, the number of Caribbean owned media outlets have also grown. Mainstream media have expanded their programming and content as an outreach to the rapidly expanding Caribbean community. There are many individuals of Caribbean heritage who are employed in various positions in the media industry from News Anchors, reporters, photographers, Ad Agency Principals, Event Marketing Managers, Public Information Officers to Advertising Sales and Sales Managers. All are eligible to become members of the organization.
