‘Bolting’ For Charity, December 4 – 5, 2009, St Ann

As anticipation builds for the ‘9.58 Super Party’, world record holder Usain Bolt is also focused on the charity goals he has set for this one-of-a-kind event.

The fastest man alive, who was recently bestowed with the nation’s fourth highest honour — The Order of Jamaica —  seems determined on making himself a legend in the history books — not only for his athletic accomplishments and charisma — but also for his generous heart. Geared at raising funds for charity the two day series of activities ending with the 9.58 SuperParty, takes place from December 4 – 5 at Richmond Estate in St Ann.

Bolt’s manager Norman Peart explained that Bolt and his team hope to achieve several objectives through the two-day activities. He said, “We want to celebrate Usain’s phenomenal 2009 achievements with his friends, family and fans. However our aim in producing this 9.58 SuperParty goes beyond celebrating Bolt’s accomplishments, as we now move to a phase where the world sees Usain, passionately and responsibly inviting people to visit, party and do business with Jamaica.”

Peart also noted that the primary goal of the event is to raise funds towards the Sherwood Content Health Centre, located in the Usain’s home town in Trelawny. Funds will go towards purchasing the property and attempt to improve the existing facilities.

Additional funds from this event will be donated to various foundations through the United Way Charity. The United Way Charity comes under the leadership of United Way Worldwide, a support organization for a network of nearly 1,800 community-based United Ways in 45 countries and territories. It advances the common good, creating opportunities for a better life for all, by focusing on education, income and health. The United Way movement mobilizes millions to action — to give, advocate and volunteer — to improve the conditions in which they live.  Bolt has been working closely with the organization for the last three months and is currently working on setting up his own foundation within a year’s time.

While not dropping any names as yet, party plans are in high gear and have attracted support from sponsors and from the artistes so the line up is looking impressive…comprising a short but sophisticated list of international celebrity athletes who Bolt has made friends with, who will enjoy two days of fun, a celebrity sports clinic, a celebrity media reception and the 9.58 SuperParty.

During their time here the celebrities will also be meeting and greeting youngsters from the community sharing their knowledge and experience with them.

The 9.58 SuperParty takes place on Saturday, December 5, on the grounds of the massive Richmond Estate in St Ann.
