The semi-finals for the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s Jamaica Children’s Gospel Song Competition will take the form of an exciting, soul-stirring concert where the top 42 performers from across the island will compete for a spot in the National finals. The Concert, “Blessed to be A Blessing” will be held on Sunday, April 13 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, starting at 5:00 p.m.
Leighton Jones, Competition Coordinator noted that the performers represent the best of Jamaica’s children, who will showcase their singing talent in the solo, ensemble and choir categories of the competition. The children will compete in two age classes, 6-10 years old and 11-15 years old singing an original or cover song. The MC for the evening will be Basillia Barnaby-Cuff from Love 101 FM. Admission cost Adults $300 and children under 12 years will enter at a cost of $ 200.
Once the finalists are chosen, they will go on to participate in Creative Workshops at Children’s Home during the month of May. The workshops for children will be conducted by the finalists under the guidance of their teachers in areas such as speech, drama, dance and music. This with an aim of: engendering leadership in the children trainers, encourage others to believe that they too can achieve in these areas, encourage them to enter the competitions and encourage a spirit of community that of giving of self to others.
The competition will close the celebration of Child’s Month with the National Finals being held on Sunday May 25.
