More than fifty youth from the SOS Children’s Village, Fletchers Land, Maxfield Avenue, Hannah Town, White Wing and other communities will show off their talents at Caterpillar to Butterfly on Saturday July 27, 2008 at 6pm at the Edna Manley College of the Visual & Performing Arts.
The concert which showcases the extra-ordinary talent of Jamaica’s youth comes at the culmination of a three-week long summer school titled ‘ASHE Summer Bounce’ which was hosted by the ASHE Performing Arts Company at the Vicars Studio.
According to Conroy B Wilson, Executive Director of ASHE “over the three weeks these young people were trained in exposing their talents; developing social skills; consciousness; and cultural identity to help in realising the goals of Vision 2030 Jamaica to have a society that is empowered to achieve its fullest potential and create a secure, cohesive, orderly and just society.”
These youth who were also trained in the ASHE Edutainment strategy to promote HIV/AIDS Prevention and Conflict Resolution is now ready to share what they have learnt in music, dance and drama to their parents and friends in the form of a highly entertaining concert.
Caterpillar to Butterfly is an example of how young people’s talents when harnessed and channeled in a positive direction can be used to create positive change and develop healthy lifestyles.
“This show is a must see for all who wish to be entertained and to support the culmination of this positive social experience, where Jamaica’s youths use their talents to send a positive message about the future,” remarked the Executive Director.
