Acting Consul General Lauds Jamaican Diaspora In Christmas Message

Acting Consul General of Jamaica in New York, Lincoln Downer has lauded Jamaicans overseas for their initiatives and interest in the growth and development of their beloved homeland.

In his Christmas message, Mr. Downer said that he was grateful to the many Jamaicans in the Diaspora who made contributions to Jamaica during the past year.

“I take this opportunity to place on record my profound gratitude to the many Jamaicans in the Diaspora who made contributions in cash and kind including community based organizations, alumni associations as well as individuals,” the message said.

Citing the devastation to the national infrastructure and the agricultural sector in particular, from Hurricane Dean and a hyperactive rainy season, Mr. Downer said that 2007 was a challenging year for Jamaica, “however it was also one in which we count our blessings”.

“We continue to applaud the efforts and strategic initiatives of the Diaspora in the Northeast United States, which is a vibrant resource of human capital. We are mindful of the tremendous possibilities for significant growth and development for our beloved country,” the message read.

Mr. Downer said that the main reason for the season must be to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ which represents peace, joy and hope for the future of mankind.

In wishing Jamaicans overseas a blessed holiday season, Mr. Downer said that it was his wish also that the New Year will afford opportunities to foster mutually beneficial relationships in such key sectors as trade, investment and education.
