Jamaica’s Minister of Education, Hon. Rev. Ronald Thwaites will lead the third annual Walkathon of the Coalition of Jamaican Alumni Associations of Florida (CJAAF) next Saturday (Dec. 8), starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill.
The Minister will begin a schedule of weekend activities, commencing Friday (Dec. 7) as he will be special guest at a Community Education Forum and networking Reception commencing at 5:00 p.m. at the Liberal Arts Building on the Florida Atlantic University, Davie Campus located at 3200 College Avenue.
On Sunday (Dec. 9) the all alumni fraternity will join in worship with congregants at the Holy Family Episcopal Church at 10:00 a.m., at 18501 NW Seventh Avenue in Miami Gardens. The guest preacher will be the Hon. Rev. Ronald Thwaites, while the Rev. Horace Ward will be the officiating Minister.
Following the service, guests will conclude the weekend activities at a “Brunch” hosted at the Finger Lickin’ Restaurant in Pembroke Pines. Unfortunately, tickets to the Brunch are already sold out.
Co-chair of the CJAAF, Dr. Rupert Rhodd is encouraging families and friends of the Jamaican Diaspora to participate in the weekend activities. The weekend activities, he emphasized, “will provide an excellent opportunity to support the Coalition, and your individual alma mater if you are a graduate of a Jamaican institution”. There will be opportunities for networking with new business contacts and strengthening existing relationships as almost 1,000 persons are expected to attend the various events, he added.
Proceeds from the 5K Walkathon serves to benefit Jamaica’s education system as the funds raised will go towards development projects at the schools represented by the participating members of the nearly 50 alma mater associations represented here in South Florida.
Pledge forms for the Walkathon can be obtained from individual local alumni chapters. Meanwhile, alumni chapters are encouraged to pre-register for the Walkathon. The registration fee is $40 for each alumni group.
