The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is reporting that a section of a two-storey apartment building collapsed at 20 Lower First Street in Trench Town. The apartment building, which houses four families, collapsed due to a structural failure. No one was injured in the collapse.
The Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Disaster Committee, along with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS), the Poor Relief Department and the KSAC Engineering Department has responded to the incident. Welfare assessments have been conducted and comfort items, mattresses and blankets, have been dispatched to the affected families. Those affected are currently staying with friends and family members.
The relevant agencies have been contacted to effect clearance of the debris as it is a potential hazard.
