The Consulate General of Jamaica, New York will showcase another book in the “Arts & Literary Salon” series highlighting works by Jamaican authors & visual artists. In a major collaborative effort with the Harlem Book Fair, the “Salon” will feature its first cookbook.
Nyam Jamaica is a photographic wondrous experience of the many people author Rosemary Parkinson meets, interacts with, or gets to know, the many places visited, parish to parish, during her years on the island of Jamaica. ‘Cotching’ a ride on her bumpy but delicious culinary travel, on occasion, are two of her Jamaican friends and contributors to the book, Chef Norma Shirley and international photographer Cookie Kinkead, who will be in attendance at the book signing.
Launched last August, the second staging of the “Arts & Literary Salon” series will take place on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 6:30 pm., at the Consulate General of Jamaica 767 3rd Ave, 2nd floor (corner of E 48 St), New York, NY 10017. There will be a presentation & book signing followed by a reception.
“Nyam Jamaica is a beautiful book with bold, colorful and crisp photographs. It does for the eyes what the recipes will do for the pallete”, says Consul General Brown Metzger.
This event is sponsored by Clarendon Rum, distributed by Nembo Imports Ltd, NY, with support from Jamaica Impact (JAMPACT), Inc., Jamaican Diaspora Board, NE/USA, our media partners Irie Jam Radio, 93.5 FM/WVIP, New Rochelle and the New York Carib News newspaper.
The “Arts & Literary Salon” series will continue to showcase authors & visual artists of Jamaican heritage as a means to promote the island, the richness of its culture, and the creativity of its people through the written word & visual artistic expression.
