As we enter this most festive of seasons, a time for cheers and good tidings, let me take this opportunity to extend greetings to all and to wish for you a New Year with opportunities and fulfillment.
The Christmas season is also a time for reflection and resolutions. May we be mindful to build with love and understanding and, as a people of God, to search for ways and means to make a positive difference, no matter how small, in touching lives.
Let me express a sincere thanks to all those individuals, groups and organizations that continue to perform glorious acts of kindness, even while doing so with great humility, and to commend those who remain steadfast to the betterment of our community, country and the global village.
I am particularly pleased to acknowledge the role played by members of the Hurricane Ivan Relief Task Force, but most importantly, the scores of Jamaicans who answered the call for service and support in so many ways. Now that the rebuilding process is on, it’s full steam ahead and with God as our guard, we shall overcome.
The Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, brought joy to our nation and a poignant affirmation of the excellence that characterizes our country. Once again, as in so many endeavours, we continue to defy the odds and serve as an inspiration to all who strongly believe and thus achieve.
During this Holy Season, which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, may we recommit ourselves to be messengers of peace and love and goodwill to all, as we strive to make our world a more caring and safer place.
The staff of the Consulate, the Jamaica Information Service and the other agencies of the Government of Jamaica in New York, join me in wishing you a safe and joyous holiday season and a New Year filled with success.
And as you enjoy the company of family and loved ones, remember always … The word is love!
