Tuesday was not a very good day for Windies left arm spinner Nikita Miller. The Jamaican was dropped from the West Indies XI after Sunday’s game and replaced by wicketkeeper Devon Thomas. However another left arm spinner enjoyed one of the most remarkable days of his short life.

Fifteen year old Dominican, Jarvid Abraham, is a left arm spinner for Pierre Charles Secondary School and he was the Digicel guest at the toss, accompanying captains Floyd Reifer and Shakib Al Hasan, match referee Roshan Mahanama and commentator Tony Cozier.

Cozier announced at the toss that young Jarvid was keen to be at the cricket, not only to be a part of the toss ceremony but also because he was eager to pick up tips from the two Bangladeshi left arm spinners – Shakib and Abdur Razzak who was Man of the Match in the First Digicel ODI.

Shakib was the leading wicket taker in the Digicel Test Series, picking up 13 wickets all told.

However during the Second Digicel ODI Shakib and Razzak took only one wicket each as the Windies made 274 for 6 in 50 overs. The most celebrated left arm spinner on the day, was, in fact Jarvid, whose best figures are 6 for 19 and who is also an avid footballer.

Jarvid has been a regular member of his school side for three years and was a participant at Camp Rescue Londonderry this year. Camp Rescue works with young people at risk in Dominica and as part of the Camp Rescue project Jarvid received training in life skills among other areas.

Digicel was delighted to have arranged for the teenager to be a part of the toss ceremony, ensuring that he enjoyed a most delightful experience in only the second ever international cricket match to be held in Dominica.
