New York – There has never been a shortage of talent to hail from the borough of Queens. With its Hall of Fame heralding names such as Kool G Rap, Mobb Deep, Nas, LL Cool J and the legendary Run DMC. For the boroughs up and coming artists, these are predominantly hard names to follow.
Queens Village however boasts Spectacula, a devoted lyricist whose debut album will be hitting shelves on May 13th, 2008. For What Its Worth is a combination of street savvy punch lines complemented by tracks that accentuate conceptuality ensuring the listener a well rounded album; traits that are more often than not denied into today’s musical haven.
Having already enthralled the streets and the Internet with his DJ Noodles hosted mixtape Paid in Full and his Networth production hosted by DJ Nuke Knocka, Spectacula is confident that this project will display his ability to provide for all pallets and yet stay true to what he believes an entertainer to be.
“My favorite MCs growing up didn’t stick to any formulas, they would set the bar and try to out do themselves. I apply those same standards to my own music today because I feel the lack of artist trying to out do themselves and the constant reusing of formulas is the reason Hip-Hop is in the state its in today. “
Stand out tracks on the album are undoubtedly the sure hit Three Greats. Produced by New York production trio, The Heatmakerz, who provide Spectacula with a soulful backdrop for him to paint his lyrical picture. The track tells the story of the women and girls who have made an impact on the lyricist throughout the years which he defines as his ‘three great loves.’
Relatable to many, Spectacula injects a vast dose of reality into the verses and songs delivered on For What its Worth. The Abilliontrillion produced Monster tackles HIV and AIDS, a topic that the rapper feels the need to be discussed. “Rappers always pride themselves on being ‘real’ while always talking about what’s going on in the ‘hood’; for an issue that affects such a high percentage of people in the ‘hood’ not to be discussed is unacceptable to me.”
The Bad News assisted Politically Correct reflects the generic sense of unease running through the veins of hip-hop; this track is literally an ode to the fine lines walked by purveyors of the genre. With the rock infused production also crafted by Bad News, heralding hard drums and guitar rifts Spectacula puts his frustrations with the negativity implicated by certain public figures out to the masses with this lyrical evaluation.
Spectacula has already secured the attention of certain media platforms in countries beyond the USA. “I am hoping that by releasing this album on I Tunes it will allow my fan base in countries such as the UK and Germany to get my album as easily as those in the US.” With his mind set on maintaining and encouraging a greater international presence, Spectacula understands that in the age of digital progression, this is inevitable when providing stellar projects.
For What it’s Worth and its creator are a fine example of what coming up in an area rich in Hip-Hop culture can equate to. Without a doubt Spectacula has learned from the greats and respects the work they put in for performers such as him to progress in the music industry. But he knows that it is time for him to put to use all the lessons learned and emerge as another name for that Hall of Fame.
