Do Good Jamaica’s latest project, Crayons Count, the brainchild of Deika Morrison, focuses on placing learning kits in every early childhood learning center in Jamaica with the goal of helping to shape an entire generation.

In an effort to involve Jamaicans abroad in the fundraising and making it easy for them to support Do Good Jamaica has tapped David Mullings, former USA Future Leaders Representative on the Jamaican Diaspora Advisory Board and a supporter of Do Good Jamaica since launch, to lead a fundraising effort during the month of May. Mr. Mullings has been made a Diaspora Ambassador and Do Good Jamaica will be using crowdfunding website IndieGoGo.com to try and raise US$25,000 in one month.

“Every $15 donated provides access to learning kits for 5 children in Jamaica and I am confident that we can get individuals and organizations in the diaspora to support an islandwide education initiative such as this” said Deika Morrison, founder of Do Good Jamaica.

IndieGoGo was chosen because Mr. Mullings successfully raised money last year for a personal film project on his family’s relationship with the Jamaican railroad.

“This is a great opportunity to make the diaspora count. We are always talking about supporting education and health but few islandwide opportunities have presented themselves. Thanks to technology we can easily facilitate donations and transparency in how the money is spent” said David Mullings.
