WHAT: “Creating Counter Narratives – Activist Film Making and the Political Process” a Lecture and Film Screening by Esther Figueroa
WHEN: Friday March 23 @ 6:00PM
WHERE: N! Lecture Hall, UWI Mona Campus
CONTENT: I will relate film making as a narrative form – a way of telling stories – to other forms of story telling whether spoken, written, performed. I will talk about representation and the importance of media literacy. I will illustrate the elements of non fiction film making as a genre, in particular activist film making and the creation of counter narratives, by showing a variety of clips from my environmental projects including just finished video on Cockpit Country, my documentary feature Jamaica for Sale, and on going projects documenting Falmouth, Pedro Bank and Palisadoes.
