Cricket Hall Of Fame Recognizes Jamaican Born Broward County Commissioner Dale V.C. Holness

Broward County Commissioner Dale V.C. Holness has received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Cricket Hall of Fame for his efforts to support and promote the sport in South Florida. The Rev. Ouida McDonald, a Florida member of the Cricket Hall of Fame, presented the Commissioner with the certificate during the Commission meeting on Tuesday, December 13.

“This certificate was brought to Broward County by Michael Chambers, the director of the Cricket Hall of Fame on his first visit to our Cricket Stadium,” said Rev. McDonald. “The high level of this competitive sport has brought many history breaking events to our Central Broward Regional Park & Stadium, which is the first in the USA.”

The Central Broward Regional Park & Stadium hosted the Third Annual T20 U.S. Cricket Open at the beginning of this month. The cricket stadium at Central Broward Regional Park, the only stadium in North America to be certified for international tournaments by the International Cricket Council, was the main venue for the four-day sports event. Other games were played at Miramar Regional Park in Miramar and Brian Piccolo Park in Cooper City.

“This past event sold out two hotels in Broward County. This is a great thing. We look forward to doing more of these events, and not only cricket but the multipurpose facility can also have football games, rugby, soccer and many other sports there,” said Commissioner Holness.

In October, Commissioner Holness assembled a Cricket Advisory Committee to seek teams and sponsors to assist in bringing cricket to Broward County and to work closely with the USA Cricket Board and other organizations to ensure that Central Broward Regional Park is well positioned to attract tournaments.

The Cricket Hall of Fame, located in Hartford, Conn., is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promote and develop the game of cricket in the United States, inducting local and international cricket players for their contribution to the game of cricket.
