New York: Winston Foster aka Yellowman, known in dancehall circles as ‘King Yellow,’ is the latest artiste that has been added to the impressive Irie Jamboree roster, slated for Roy Wilkins Park, Queens, New York on Labor day Sunday, August 31 2008. Irie Jamboree will also showcase another dancehall king – the Doctor Beenieman, Tarrus Riley, Coco Tea, Sizzla, Elephant Man and rising reggae stars Serani, Bugle, DeMarco, Tanya Mullings, Little Hero and Elvis D who are all confirmed acts for the event.

Yellowman has an incredible history in reggae music. He first caught the attention of the reggae world in the late 1970s when he won the Tastee Talent contest event in Kingston, Jamaica. His ability to ride the rhythm and excite a crowd made him an instant hit in Jamaica. He quickly made an impact on the charts with big hits like “I’m Getting Married in the Morning,” “Nobody Move,” “Nobody Get Hurt,” “Zungu Zungu Zeng” and “Mad Over Me.” By the mid 80’s he became significantly popular outside of Jamaica, and soon became the first dancehall artist to collaborate with hip-hop stars and the first to be signed to a major American label – CBS Records.

“I am the first dancehall artiste who was nominated for the Grammy’s. I was the first dancehall artiste to collaborate with a rap artiste. I work with people like Run DMC, NWA, Public Enemy and Doug-E-Fresh and nuff other of them artistes dere” Yellowman was quoted as saying in a recent interview.

”Nuff people nuh know seh me innah the Guinness Book of Records too, for the most albums released in a year … Nuff people don’t know that me get the key to Fort Lauderdale City,” he disclosed.

”Yellowman is one of the greatest dancehall entertainers of all time. He has an impressive catalogue of hit songs and has consistently captivated fans whenever he performs,” Bobby Clarke, one of the principals of the event said.

“He compliments the lineup and we are proud to have him showcase his awesome talent on the Irie Jamboree stage” Clarke noted.

Last year’s Jamboree attracted well over 30,000 music lovers who enjoyed performances from Stephen Marley, Beenie Man, Luciano, Morgan Heritage, Jr. Gong, Lady Saw, Mr Vegas, Anthony B, Tony Matterhorn, Munga, Macka Diamond, Etana, Da’Ville and others. With a track record of successful events, the promoters are leaving no stones unturned in their quest to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever.
