DANIELA NARDI’s Espresso Manifesto is set to heat up Toronto’s Glenn Gould Studio on Tuesday, November 27. Already established as one of Canada’s most celebrated homegrown artists, the Italian-Canadian songstress sizzles on her latest project Espresso Manifesto – The Songs of Paolo Conte (Acronym/EMI Music). Receiving rave reviews and charting on radio across North America, The Montreal Journal calls this a “true tour de force, (4.5 out of 5 stars!). As part of her North American Tour, Nardi and her stellar band will showcase the critically acclaimed works LIVE at GLENN GOULD STUDIO @ 7:30 pm. Quickly becoming a ‘must see and experience’ event, the tour will include stops in New York City, Los Angeles, Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa, Kitchener and more!

“Espresso. The ultimate symbol of all things Italian. Dark. Rich. Earthy. Complex yet effortless. Elegant yet primal. Hot. When made in the right way, the only way, it is like nothing you have ever known. This is Italy to me. If one person embodies all these elements, it’s Paolo Conte. His music, his lyrics, the experience; as Italian as Espresso. This is my manifesto, my Espresso Manifesto: to create works that proudly display the wonders of those earthy, complex, elegant, primal people, my people – the Italian people.” ~ Daniela Nardi

Daniela Nardi’s latest self-produced album Espresso Manifesto – The Songs of Paolo Conte and launch of her new world music project, Espresso Manifesto, marks a musical and personal milestone for the award-winning singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist. Under the project title Espresso Manifesto, the Toronto-born daughter of Italian immigrants explores some adventurous and new creative territory on this album that has required her to step out of her musical comfort zone and into the wondrous exploration of the Italian Songbook. This passionately crafted album, a tribute to the legendary Italian composer/performer Paolo Conte, is receiving rave reviews all the way from Italy for Nardi’s enchanting voice and smoldering interpretations of Conte’s works. Her expressive vocals matched with spare, earthy, jazzy arrangements, are an evocative combination of old-world romanticism and modernist cool.

Charting on radio across North America with features on the prestigious KCRW’s “Cafe L.A.” with Tom Schnabel, PRI’s The World (syndicated to BBC, NPR and CBC) and Montreal’s Planète Jazz 99.1 FM, Nardi is well on her way to fulfilling her “manifesto” to bring the heart of Italy to North America.

Recorded at Elettra Studios in Italy’s Umbria region, the CD boasts some of that country’s most respected musicians and features her husband, renowned jazz pianist/composer Ron Davis who also co-produced. Included on the 12-track album are such stirring vintage numbers as the plaintive, haunting, tango-inspired “Gioco D’Azzardo,” the beautifully bittersweet “Nina,” the punchy, playful “Via Con Me” and the breezy, swinging “Gelato al Limon.” They offer powerful testimony to Conte’s enduring genius and Nardi’s singular interpretive skills resulting in timeless eloquence that transcends the songs’ Italian lyrics.
