Touchstone Youth Centre hosts its Annual Fire & Ice Fundraiser on Thursday, September 8 at 5:30pm at Toronto Don Valley Hotel and Suites. This fun networking event will keep summer around just a little longer with a tropical theme including Polynesian Dream dancers and a steel drum band. Fire & Ice raises important funds needed to operate Touchstone Youth Centre, a 32 bed emergency youth shelter, in east Toronto.
Joining Touchstone supporters will be Actor Tom Melissis and young Degrassi stars Jahmil French, Sam Earle and Chloe Rose. Mr. Melissis connection to Touchstone began as a volunteer in the early 90’s; today he remains a dedicated advocate for homeless youth and the important work of the Centre. Sam Earle is active with Free the Children, and Chloe Rose is the director of “The Do. Crew”, a Toronto based youth advocacy group. Guests will also have the opportunity to hear from former resident Eric who will speak about how Touchstone helped him realize his dream to attend the University of Waterloo, and to do so as a mathematics scholarship recipient.
Touchstone Youth Centre is a Centre of Hope providing youth refuge free from abuse and neglect; the Centre is a supportive home where youth can build a new life with opportunity and possibility. Touchstone serves youth aged 16-24 by providing food and shelter as well as a drop in centre with a range of support services such as housing, employment, academic, and a food and clothing bank. Each year Touchstone lends a helping hand to over 400 youth in search of new hope.
