DIALECTICS 2006
Whether you call it Creole, Dialect, Island Talk, or Patois…the languages of the Caribbean are as diverse and colorful as the people themselves. Originally a birthday celebration for the champion of native linguistic _expression, Jamaican cultural icon the late Hon. Louise Bennett-Coverley—better known as Miss Lou— DIALECTICS is a language festival, ripe with the echoes of regional social gatherings like Tea Meetings, Village Shows, Penny Concerts, and Nine Nights through songs, poetry, stories, sketches, and comedy. The annual performance gives Caribbean and non-Caribbean families alike an opportunity to explore the intricacies of Caribbean languages through the traditions that have nurtured Caribbean culture.
