Digicel, the best value operator in the Caribbean, Central America and the Pacific, today announced that Damian Blackburn, formerly CEO of Digicel Honduras, will assume the role of CEO of Digicel Haiti and Group Director of Special Projects effective immediately.

A telecoms industry veteran with over fourteen years experience, Damian joined Digicel Group three and a half years ago as Group Operational Development Director. He was then promoted to the role of Regional CEO which saw him overseeing twelve Caribbean markets before moving to Honduras in October 2010 to lead the Digicel business there until its acquisition by America Movil in November 2011. Prior to joining Digicel, Damian held senior management positions with Virgin Mobile, BT Group and Vodafone in the Europe. In his new role, Damian will report directly to Digicel Group CEO, Colm Delves.

Damian takes over from Maarten Boute who has been CEO of Digicel Haiti for three years. Despite the challenges posed by the devastating January 2010 earthquake, the cholera outbreak and a prolonged period of political instability, Maarten steered the business through a strong growth phase which saw subscribers increase by 1.5 million and revenues by 60%. Maarten will remain with Digicel in Haiti until the end of March to support Damian in his new role and ensure a smooth transition before moving on to spend more time with his family.

Damian Blackburn comments; “I am very excited about my new role. Haiti is full of opportunities and I am looking forward to continuing to build the business there and delivering new innovations, great service and great value to our customers. I am also deeply committed to continuing to support our communities as we do all we can to help Haiti to a brighter future.”

Digicel Group CEO, Colm Delves, comments; “We are delighted to have Damian accept the role of CEO of Digicel Haiti and Group Director of Special Projects. Given his excellent track record across multiple Digicel operations and his energy, commitment and focus, we are confident he will ensure that our Haiti business goes from strength to strength.”

“I would also like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to Maarten for three great years with Digicel and to wish him and his growing family all the very best. Maarten will always be a member of the Digicel family and we are pleased to confirm that we anticipate Maarten will have an ongoing role going forward.”
