Filled with a strong desire to spread the gospel in music form, he has teamed up with gospel deejay Prodigal Son and producer Danny H. Browne in his latest release ‘I Am Not Leaving’.
Commenting on the inspiration behind the song, Dr KJ said it is a personal testimony of the many struggles and hardships he endured during a time of loneliness and despair.
“The inspiration came about after l was encouraged by Prodigal Son to use my many experiences of unfortunate situations to help others go through their storms,” he shared, as he stressed the desire that those who listen to the song will be encouraged and understand that they too can go through their painful situations and emerge victorious and even stronger.
Officially released on January 11 of this year, the artiste is already receiving some ‘awesome’ responses including testimonials. Persons have been singing the song, recording it and sending it to him and some of these have been shared on his personal social media pages.
Dr KJ said his love affair with music began at the age of 10 when he attended a church rally with his father. He said while at the rally, he felt the urge to sing for his church and with his pastor being the master of ceremonies, he asked if he could sing a song.
Request granted, he took the stage and ministered in song. With a laugh, he reminisced that it was the most ice cream he had ever eaten in his life.
During his high school years attending Frome Technical High School, he joined the Soul 4 Soul Acapella Group where his love of music strengthened.
The group entered the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission Gospel Song Competition in 1999 making it in the top 10.
Three years later Dr KJ also made it in the top 10 with a solo piece.
“I have been a Praise and Worship Leader for the church l attend and continue to Minister through music today. The musical calling has been on my life and as such, l am not able to escape this ministry,” Dr KJ said of his passion.
Stressing the importance of music to him, Dr KJ said it is what he uses to ease his mind in times of stress, as well as to encourage himself.
It is this love that pushed him into ‘forming and co-founding’ several gospel groups over the years including Soul Inspirers, Orizon and Shekinah Praise.
It is this same passion and love that he is hoping to use to win souls for the Lord.
Looking ahead, Dr KJ is now working on two projects – one which will feature Joan Flemmings and the other Prodigal Son, both slated to be released real soon.
Down the horizon for Dr KJ is a full album, as he continues to work with both Prodigal Son and Danny Browne and a good friend from out of Georgia, USA.
